APR '13 Ipsy Glam Bag

I've been a bad little beauty blogger for the past week or so & I'm so sorry for the lack of posts. Life's been a tad busy & I've just been so exhausted...& then it was my birthday...but now I am back! I've had the April Ipsy Glam Bag for a little bit & now I am finally going to share it with you.

The theme this month is Pretty In Pink & I'm super happy with the contents! The bag itself is super cute & seems to be the most sturdy & well made bag that I've received so far. Also, one of the items is probably my favorite item that I've ever gotten from any beauty subscription. We'll get to that, though...let's start with pics!

Let's start off with my absolute favorite item! Be A Bombshell blush in Sweet Cheeks is the perfect rosey pink & I'm completely obsessed. It suits my skin tone very well, has great pigmentation & a nice, silky feel & the packaging is cute, too (& full size!). It has a little bit of shimmer to it but nothing overwhelming & in the few days that I've been wearing it I've noticed that the color has pretty good staying power. Love love love, all around love. (There's a swatch a little further down below).

Next up is Mica Beauty Mineral Eye Shadow in Earth. This loose shadow is a light shimmery pink that gives just a hint of color & pretty shimmer. I've only used it dry but I would imagine that using it wet would intensify the color & shimmer. The Ipsy website says that it can also be "mixed with clear lip-gloss, clear mascara, and clear nail polish to add pigment to lips, eyelashes and nails." I'm not too sure about the mascara part, but I can totally see this color making a pretty lip gloss or polish. Maybe one day I will do some experimenting. For now, I will definitely be using this shadow on days when I want just a little somethin' somethin' on my lids. The only downside to this item is the packaging. There's no stopper or anything to keep the shadow from dispensing when it ought not to. Not the biggest of deals, but it could get messy if you keep the container in a makeup bag during travel, etc.

Here are swatches of the Mica Beauty Mineral Eye Shadow & the Be A Bombshell blush. These are both swatched lightly using my finger on bare skin.

I had seen the next product many times in the hair care aisle at the drug store & was always kind of curious what it was all about, so I was happy to see it included in this month's bag. Sexy Hair Powder Play is a volumizing & texturizing hair powder. Per the packaging, it can be applied to the root of dry hair for an "instant lift" or sprinkled throughout the hair for "lightweight texture, separation and control." Despite my curiosity, I haven't gotten around to actually using this item yet. I know, I know. Like I said, I've been a bad little beauty blogger. I'm definitely going to give it a shot this week & will report back if it blows my mind!

Last & (unfortunately) least...Sation for Ipsy nail lacquer in Of Corset I'll Call You. Ipsy describes the color as "a romantic lavender-rose" which I don't necessarily see. To me it seems like a watery Pepto pink which is most definitely not my style when it comes to polish. The other color option that I could have received, Love At First Byte, is described as "a light peachy pink"...also not my style. I swatched Of Corset I'll Call You on a nail wheel & the color is very sheer. I'd image that you would need at least 3 coats to build up to full opacity. Otherwise the formula seemed okay if not a little watery. I'm sure there are plenty of people who love this nail look & that's great, I'm just not one of them. With a theme like Pretty In Pink, I was really hoping for something a little more bright & punchy...but again, that's just me. This is my first experience with Sation, so I think I'm going to have to pick up a color that's more appropriate for me before I judge the brand as a whole.

So there you have it, another great Ipsy Glam Bag! Despite the disappointing nail polish (ugh, I hate even saying that)...I LOVE this month's bag. The blush, the shadow, the fun hair products, the cute bag...all good things. I've been generally (& often exceptionally) happy with Ipsy since I joined & I don't see that changing any time soon!

Did you receive this month's Pretty In Pink bag? What are your thoughts? Any ideas what next month's theme will be?

  2. Love the interior of the bag, the blush and the nail colour, but loose powder shadows and I don't get along, because the powder gets all over my face and dress.
